The Story of Recycled Paper: Each time you recycle a magazine, office paper or newspaper, it begins a second life. Once collected, the recycled paper is compacted into large bales and transported to the mill. At the mill, it is mixed with hot water and mechanically pulped to make a soup where screens and filters are used to remove contaminants. The mix is washed to remove inks and then whitened to achieve a uniform color. Seventh Generation products are whitened without the use of chemicals containing chlorine that pollute the soil and water. After a final rinse, the pulp is pressed, dried and converted into a valuable product: Seventh Generation paper towels.
